Quality upgrade for BLFs in Assam & Value Creation for STGs - PROJECT PROPOSAL 2022-23

Last one year of working with the supply chain in selected Bought Leaf Factories (BLFs)- the actual area of concern is the health of the bush and proper pruning can effectively direct the tea plucked towards quality improvement. The project aims to sustainably transform plucked tea sourced by BLFs through knowledge led interventions. Here it is also important to understand that fine leaf is not the only criteria for quality teas, focus has to be shifted to Pruning Cycle(3-4 years) with correct stem thickness and correct tipping level.

    1. Factories identify their personnel whom they would like to train. We recommend a mix of small growers, internal employees, agents, etc., this would allow a holistic reach

    2. Identified personnel would be given classroom and on field training on plucking, spraying, pruning and other related activities

    3. We continue to provide support over phone or through visits as and when required

    4. We also provide support to businesses helping them connect to potential buyersWe also adopt different approaches, including a market-driven approach to work with the STGs to increase their farm productivity, income diversification and enhancement.
